The Eastern Cape has seen a recent rise in taxi-related hits, with 2016 recording fourteen hits, the highest number of hits per year in the Eastern Cape in the seventeen year period (2000-2016).
The taxi-related hits for 2017 are even higher, with ten recorded hits between January and April 2017. This shows a clear upswing in taxi-related hits in the Eastern Cape. Six of the ten hits took place in and around East London. The remaining four took place in Mthatha, Jeffery’s Bay, King William’s Town and Libode.
Taxi-related hits also comprised the majority (10/11) of the total hits in the Eastern Cape for the period of January – April 2017.
